Holiday Essentials – 3 Fail-Safe Ways To Accessorize With A Statement Straw Hat

Summer is well on its way and the most popular holiday seasons are upon us; July and August!

As much as we like to be as comfortable as we can when we are on a vacation, most of us want to avoid looking like the most obvious tourist in town. Things to avoid are of course socks in sandals (invest a bit more money on those sandals so you don’t need to wear socks to avoid blisters) and Hawaii shirts.

I would have included fanny bags in the list but it so happens that this Summer season they are in style. Maybe carry them like a satchel rather than around your waist to avoid any unwelcome connotations.

This Summer season one of the biggest trends have been statement straw hats. All colours, all shapes, the main point is you need to have a brim on your hat, the wider the better. There are all sorts on offer but you can turn up the volume of your hat by accessorizing it with pins and delicate chains.

I’ve gathered here 3 outfits that are fail-safe options to go for with a straw hat; one to the beach, one for day-wear and one for the evening.

I’ve never been one for wearing hats, to be honest. My hair is a flat nightmare on a good day so putting a hat on that to flatten things even more is not something one likes to do.

But then I came across this black straw hat a year ago and it just spoke to me. You know that thing that sometimes happens when shopping: you see a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes and no matter if you walk by it, it gets stuck in your head. And if you then make the mistake of leaving the store without that particular item(s) you will regret it, so better to just buy it and be happy.

That’s what happened with this hat, I just needed it. For once I could use the excuse “I don’t have any hats!” so it was definitely required to fill this void.

So, I bought it. And then I didn’t wear it. But I’ve got a good reason for that: last year we didn’t have Summer so why I would I wear a Summer hat? This year, though, I couldn’t wait for our holiday so that I could finally “pop the cork”.

A hat like this has a massive effect on your overall look and I think that effect is only positive. You immediately look a tad more posh, for some reason. I’ll take it! So this hat will stay a regular piece in my Summer essentials list from here on.
