I have this one outfit that I keep coming back to every single Autumn, year after year. Even if the pieces of clothing might be updated every now and then, the colour scheme and the style of those pieces always stays the same.
The reason for my loving this particular combo so much has everything to do with the colour combination. I love to wear bright colours in the Autumn, maybe because I like to be in harmony with the colours displayed by nature at the time. Incorporating a bright piece into otherwise basic outfit with a neutral colour palette is my way of giving an outfit the oomph-effect.
Autumn fashion and trends always inspire me the most and I love coming up with new outfit combinations with what I already have in my closet. This is a tradition that has stuck with me since the study years, even if those years are rather far behind me. But it’s a great tradition to keep up.
I particularly love the Autumn colour palette. The basic colours connected to Autumn are the kind of warm, perhaps a bit darker colours that never go out of fashion, no matter what the current trend for the season might be. These colours include plum, brown, warm orange and yellow, and navy blue.
In this particular outfit I like to keep the base simple; pair a white, loose blouse with black shorts and a pair of black heels. And then add the special effects; bright orange tights!
I cheated a bit, though: No orange tights on these pictures. When the pictures were taken it was one of those days… you know those “Nothing looks good on me”-days. So, I played it safe and chose black instead of orange. But usually I would include a colour element to a black&white outfit like this.
The orange tights are a piece that I have never seen anyone else wear back at home, in Finland. And perhaps because of that I got a lot of attention with this outfit back in the years. Finns are not particularly excited about wearing bright colours. But even though some people might look at me like “Jesus, what a clown” this outfit brings me compliments every single time I wear it. So, I’d say it works ;)
You could pair a nice couple of loafers or brown ankle boots with this outfit, but I prefer black (or dark gray) shoes to keep the ensemble under control. A leather jacket works nicely on top of the white blouse or you could opt for a well shaped suit jacket. And the shorts could just as easily be a skirt and still look as great.
So, this outfit offers so many opportunities to let your creativity run wild and mix and match with you heart’s content while keeping the gist the same. Next time you want to freshen up your Autumn look without spending a fortune just invest on a colourful pair of tights and you’re covered :)
