I have a very changeable mind when it comes to obsessions. One week it’s Indian food, the other week liquorice, but there’s one thing that is a constant: red wine.
A bottle of good red wine has become my way of awarding myself each Friday. The award is rewarded to me by me each week for the fact that I have survived another week in a job I do not like and in a country I learned to hate very early on.
Long-gone are the Fridays when I ran from work to home, had a quick change of clothes and ran to the city center for a fun night out. Nowadays it’s straight home via supermarket to have a lie-in with a movie or 3. Although if I had a choice I would still rather have a quick change of clothes and run to the city center for a fun night out.
But this is how it is now and it has been like this since I moved to Estonia so I’ve had to come to terms with it. And also I have had the opportunity to try out a different wine each Friday and because of that I have found some real gems.
The thing that annoys me, though, is that when you’re in a restaurant and you order a really, really good red wine you never remember to write down its name. Or the times that you do write down the name you find out that you can only get that wine by ordering it, except you can’t really because that specific vineyard only delivers to restaurants… First world problems, right there :D
Obsession, when it comes to alcohol sounds a bit bad, though. I’m not an alcoholic, let’s make that clear. I was for about a month when I lived in London and got a bit depressed because my life sort of crashed. So, for about a month I came from work each day, walked through a Tesco Metro, grabbed that 2-pound bottle of red and drank the whole bottle the same night. Every single day.
Thankfully I realized at some point that, hey! This is no way to go, gal! You gotta stop this shit. And I did.
Yes, it’s just that easy: I decided to stop so I did. I only allowed myself to buy one bottle per weekend. I haven’t slipped from that decision since.
The wine in these pictures I bought in Dubrovnik, Croatia and it’s one of Croatia’s most famous and most popular red wines. I’m saving it for some special occasion… Maybe for the day when we leave Estonia *dreamy-face*…
