This Son de Flor review is my honest opinion of this deliciously beautiful brand that creates dreamy dresses from linen. Did you know that linen is one of the best fabrics for hot Summer days?
If you’re into sustainable fashion, like me, you’ve probably come across a fashion brands’ rating site, GoodOnYou. While it is brilliant at giving you an idea of different brands’ attempts at sustainability in terms of their products and operations, it’s lacking on too many fronts.
For example, brands like H&M and Zara, which are notorious fast fashion brands, are rated way too gently. And then brands who are making an actual effort are rated harshly as hell.
The overall comparison between these completely opposite business models is off. In my opinion this makes the ratings a wee bit irrelevant and distorted.
As a Son de Flor customer myself, I found the rating for this brand in particular a bit unfair. So, I decided to dive deeper into the brand’s story and the princess dress I bought from them, and rate them myself. It has pockets!
Son de Flor – Story behind the brand
The reason why I am quite loyal to certain brands, are the inspiring stories behind the brands. While fast fashion brands are far from inspiring, independent small brands, like Son de Flor, have a bigger reason for existing than just making money.
So, I’m starting this Son de Flor review with a little look into the brand’s history. The founders, Vaida and Indre, grew up in Lithuania admiring their mother’s dress sense. When they were able to replicate the beautiful design, they opted to do so using linen.
This already was a sustainable choice because linen is a natural fabric that is
- one of the most biodegradable fabrics we have,
- strong material that dries quickly,
- naturally moth-resistant,
- and super skin-friendly.
Thus, it’s appropriate that a brand like this has chosen linen as their main working material: they think that
fashion can be kind.
So, long story short, this female-led brand started from admiration, which evolved into a business dream, which grew to a successful fashion brand.
Son de Flor Review 2026
As I mentioned in the beginning, the rating that GoodOnYou has given to Son de Flor was not quite up to scratch in my opinion. This is because I acquainted myself with the brand relatively well before ordering from them. Thus, some of the things GoodOnYou mentions caused my eyebrows to rise.
For example, the rating site mentioned that
- There is no evidence it minimises textile waste when manufacturing its products.
- There is no evidence it has a Code of Conduct.
- There is no evidence it has an animal welfare policy.
Now, while I applaud the site for being so thorough, I do detest clinging on to reports and policies as proof of any brand’s sustainability. Codes of Conduct and welfare policies can be written by the brands themselves, or even created with Artificial Intelligence.
But in practice those policies have absolutely nothing to do with any brand’s actual day-to-day operations and products. They are very often completely misleading, as has been the case with River Island.
So, this Son de Flor review will now attempt to give you a more valid image of the brand in question. Instead of written, maybe even paid policies and reports, we are focusing on actual actions, actual products and actual values. Let’s dig in!
More on the subject: Sustainable Fashion Is Reasonably Priced – Here’s Why
Commitment to sustainable manufacturing
Son de Flor is dedicated to ethical and sustainable practices. They manage every stage of their production process themselves, even if there are no policies to tell you this.
By managing every stage of the production process they are able to minimise waste and reduce their environmental impact. This is a massive difference to most fashion brands. Even sustainable fashion brands tend to have extremely long and complicated production pipelines that include multiple producers from multiple industries.
This doesn’t just complicate the production process and create excess waste, but also makes it impossible to find proof to back any sustainability claims or policies.
As far as this Son de Flor review was able to trace out, the brand incorporates natural, biodegradable, or recycled materials in their detailing. This ensures that their garments are as kind to the environment as they are gentle on the skin. And that’s on top of keeping the production pipelines as simple as possible.
Commitment to people and the planet
According to my personal research and experience with the brand, Son de Flor makes decisions that favour both their customers and the planet. In line with that, they create timeless pieces from linen and collaborate with One Tree Planted.
This is an NGO devoted to global reforestation. For every order placed with Son de Flor, they allocate a portion of the proceeds to One Tree Planted.
Son de Flor review noted that this means planting trees particularly in critically deforested areas. It is an initiative that is in line with the brand’s broader goal to achieve carbon neutrality.
Commitment to durability and quality
Son de Flor aspires to create dresses that endure the tooth of time. Superior craftsmanship is the foundation of the brand, and this Son de Flor review can vouch for that!
In practice this means that traditional techniques are employed to produce garments of the highest quality. The attention to detail encompasses every facet of design, from material selection to stitching and finishing.
That’s how Son de Flor ensures that their timeless dresses are designed to withstand being worn for years. I’m sure you agree that we want our most cherished items to stay wearable for as long as is physically possible.
Commitment to local production
What this Son de Flor review applauds, is the fact that the brand goes further than being merely a clothing brand. They are also a community-focused enterprise dedicated to local production and getting their community involved.
In practice they support local communities by choosing to manufacture their garments locally. This, again, helps them to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint.
By fostering close collaborations with local businesses and artisans, the brand has cultivated strong, mutually supportive relationships in their founding country, Lithuania.
Final Thoughts – My Sleeveless Pinafore Dress
After conducting my own research and actually ordering and interacting with the brand, I had to conclude that the GoodForYou review was not accurate. In fact, it was even inaccurate at points. Hence, I wrote a Son de Flor review of my own.
This was 100% inspired by my dreamy blue pinafore dress, which always makes me feel like a princess when I wear it. In addition, I can style it in so many different ways. And that’s the charm;
A beautifully twirling, simple, and humble linen dress is an enduring and versatile wardrobe essential that effortlessly transitions between different occasions.
The comfortable and breathable fabric of a linen dress also makes it ideal for all seasons. It provides coolness in summer and warmth in winter.
Thus, investing in a high-quality linen dress is both a sustainable and practical decision. It offers longevity and adaptability, which makes it a valuable asset to any wardrobe. Don’t believe me? Try it yourself:
