This Versace review is based on my own opinions and personal experience as the brand’s biggest fan and a regular customer. I must’ve been about 6 years old when I came across a Versace fashion show on TV. And it was love at first sight!
The brand’s style aesthetics (in the mid 90’s) were completely me: bold, colourful, full of joy. At that point I didn’t really understand anything about brands and branding (note; this was 10 years before social media was born!), but I knew I needed to one day own something from Versace.
I had to wait a good while but eventually that day came! I became an entrepreneur in my early 30’s, and that opened up major income streams that having a job could never enable us. Since I got the hang of it quite quickly and made a success out of it, I decided I deserved a treat.
And there was no doubt in my mind what that treat would be: a Versace bag! From there started my client relationship with a brand I had fallen in love with at such a young age. But did it have a happy ending? Let’s find out!
Versace Review – My Honest Experience 2026
I wouldn’t be able to write a credible Versace review unless I had actually been a customer of theirs, right? Well, thankfully I became a regular customer after that first purchase.
Here’s a list of everything I’ve bought from Versace along the years:
- La Medusa bag in beige
- pleated skirt
- crop top
- black blazer
I will review the bag and the clothes separately, because they are quite different in terms of production, materials, frequency of wearing, etc. Let’s start with La Medusa bag, then review the clothes and last but not least the brand overall:
La Medusa bag
La Medusa bag was my first Versace purchase! Because I lived in a country where they didn’t have a physical store for the brand, I had to order it online. And oh, the excitement when it arrived! I still have the videos of myself unboxing the dream come true.
Ordering process 10/10
Ordering online was quite a basic experience: nothing luxurious about it but very straight-forward. They obviously have all the most popular payment methods available, including credit cards, PayPal, Klarna, etc. Choose your products, add to basket, head to check-out and pay. And then wait…
Delivery 8/10
I, of course, expected the bag to be made in Italy, as mentioned in their website and in the product labels. But I didn’t have enough information at the time to confirm it. By then we already knew that, for example, some Dior and Louis Vuitton bags were made in China instead of the countries associated with the brands.
The long delivery time (two weeks) did make me wonder about it, but I was too excited to care too much. Eventually I could see that the bag had entered the country and was being delivered. The bag was supposed to be delivered to my door.
I was ready at home, but the delivery guy never called. And then I received a message that due to nobody being at home, they had delivered my bag to a post office point in a petrol station for pickup… I was shooketh! Of course this wasn’t Versace’s fault but I hope the delivery handoff has been improved since.
The bag 4/10
There is absolutely no doubt about me being extra happy to receive my first Versace purchase! My mum was kind enough to film the unboxing and it is a memory I cherish… Despite how things ended up.
The bag was beautiful and came with two shoulder straps: one of beige leather and one golden chain… made of plastic. My alarm bells should’ve started ringing when I unwrapped the plastic ‘chain’.
But I was too excited and wouldn’t allow anything to ruin the moment. The chain did ruin the illusion, though, so I think I ended up throwing it in the trash unceremoniously. And things only got worse from there…
This was a special purchase so I would only wear the bag for special occasions. In practice that meant a maximum couple times a month. Now, leather bags are tough, they can handle constant wear and even improve with wear. So, you can imagine my shock when after only three years of very little wear the bag was showing signs of breaking!
I took it to a leather studio for a specialist to check. They told me that the bag appeared to be leather but that the colour looked like a surface finish. They suggested it may have been coated rather than dyed. In common tongue, that would mean that it was the paint wearing off, not the leather.
So, in my case, the finish wearing off made the bag impractical to wear, because the surface was noticeably faulty. For the sake of honesty, I must include in this Versace review the fact that it was genuinely disappointing how quickly the bag’s condition deteriorated.
Versace clothing
Before my bag showed any signs of its bad quality I managed to shop in an actual Versace store multiple times. I shopped in their Florence store and purchased a pleated skirt, a cropped top and a couple years later returned for a blazer I had fallen in love with.
So, how did these pieces and the shopping experiences go? Let’s find out!
Buying experience 10/10
To be fair, a true Versace review can’t skate over the fact that the shopping experience in a physical Versace store is a luxury experience. The reception is always friendly and obliging. I’ve been offered coffee and chocolate, champagne and a look at pieces from collections that hadn’t even been published yet.
The fitting rooms are gorgeous and the sales agents bring you pieces and sizes without you having to do anything. They also recommended pieces according to what could work with my body shape. I’ve had an absolute blast shopping in-store with Versace!
Fabrics 5/10
Unlike the bag, all the clothes have survived to this day. Although the back label on my crop top came off of its own accord only a couple weeks after buying it. I had to sew it on myself… Not exactly luxurious is it? Oh, it gets worse!
Premium clothing brands can be recognised easily from the fabrics that they use. And in my personal opinion it seems like Versace has embarked on a road that very much resembles fast fashion… These fabric details are straight from each of my products’ labels:
- pleated skirt: 100% polyester
- crop top: 92% viscose, 6% nylon, 2% elastane
- blazer: outer layer 98% wool, 2% elastane / inner layer 58% cupro, 42% viscose
So, quite a lot of synthetic materials, with the exception of the outer layer of the blazer and the mainly viscose top. Do I still love and wear those pieces? Yes, absolutely! The blazer especially is one of my favourite pieces. But do these pieces have anything to do with luxury fashion? For me personally, they certainly don’t.

Size & Fit 8/10
Despite all that stretchy synthetic fabric, some of my Versace pieces don’t always fit as my body changes. With women’s clothing we must always consider the fact that each woman’s body is completely unique. And on top of that, one woman’s body looks and feels completely different every single day!
While the blazer and the crop top do fit me regardless of what shape or size my body decides to opt for any given day, the skirt poses a challenge for me. The waistband is completely rigid, and as I get older and my body changes I will need to make alterations to the waistline.
This will obviously cost extra, which is something that I would’ve hoped to avoid when paying hundreds, even thousands for a piece. Something that this Versace review would like you to take into consideration overall when shopping for expensive pieces.
The brand 6/10
The big question is what does ‘luxury’ mean to you? Would you consider cheap materials luxurious as long as they come with a big price tag? In the end it’s up to anyone’s personal opinion. For my own definition luxury fashion is a very specific category involving the following aspects:
- production from start to finish happens in Europe
- products are made from premium materials
- production is based on genuine artisans and true craftsmanship
- the brand’s operations do not harm the planet, people or the environment.
Personally I can’t know if Versace has ticked each of these boxes, I’m not an auditor. But based on the materials and durability I have personally observed, especially with their bags, I no longer associate their products with the luxury category in the way I would define it.
Pricing 3/10
Nothing about this brand says luxury to me anymore. Except perhaps the prices on their price tags. But when the prices can’t be justified by anything – high quality materials, true craftsmanship, local production, extraordinary design – I find myself in bewilderment.
As someone who has spent a significant amount of money on this brand’s products, I feel the value I received didn’t match it. As such, I wouldn’t recommend buying from this brand based on my personal experience.
Customer service 3/10
While the service I’ve received in their actual stores has been nothing short of great, trying to return a broken product turned out to be challenging.
They were happy to arrange the broken bag to be sent out for repair, which was great. But the message from the factory was swift and clear: there wasn’t anything they could do [yes, I still have the emails from Feb 2026]. After that I felt they dropped the ball completely. I won’t deny, I felt hurt and like I had been insulted.
Getting at least some sort of a refund wasn’t even an option, according to the response I received [emails]. They just told me I could go back to the store to pick up the product. But what would I do with a broken bag? At this point I had lost confidence in the product and the after-sales support so I decided not to pursue the issue any further. I’m not one to give up a fight so this one hurt, I can’t deny it…
Versace Review Conclusion: 6/10
Funnily enough, since communicating to the brand personally my thoughts on it being classified as luxury, I’ve since noticed changes to their website wording. It no longer presents Versace as a luxury brand but instead talks about a ‘luxury Italian vision‘. I welcome this change in the website content.
But based on my experience, the overall impression still doesn’t feel consistent with the way I (at least) understand ‘luxury’. As mentioned, the materials and durability I have observed have made the brand feel more like a fast fashion brand.
This Versace review must admit, though, that it’s a clever move. By changing a couple words from their website they transfer the responsibility on the consumer. We’ve had so many years’ worth of proof that the luxury brands are luxury no more. So, if you are still willing to spend thousands on these brands’ products, you can’t really complain about it.
