Why do so many women prefer to end up alone with cats instead of chasing romantic relationships? It has become a tragically popular way for men to try and taunt women for choosing to stay single. The funniest part about it is that those men miss the entire point by a mile: it’s not an insult!
Most men think they compete against the 10% of the most eligible bachelors in the dating market. But in fact what they compete against is the peace and freedom that a single woman has.
And as it happens, the only gender group among human beings that is actually afraid of ending up alone, is straight men. Why is that? Could it be because in fact women don’t need men but men need women to survive? Oh dear…
Turns out that the happiest groups of people globally are single women who don’t have childen and married men. A bit of a contradiction, isn’t it? But how did we come to this?
It wasn’t that long ago when a romantic relationship was one of the most sought after social norms we had. Well, that’s what I’m going to discuss today.
6 Reasons Why Women Choose to End Up Alone With Cats
More and more women are literally choosing to end up alone with cats, so to say. While that doesn’t sound too bad at all, it’s actually not the reality for many of us. Instead the actual reality is that
- women are tired of being disappointed by men
- the traumas from abusive relationships have brought us to a point of no return
- there’s no valid reason for wasting one’s time looking after a man-child, especially when one doesn’t want children.
Yes, the truth of the matter is much simpler than women switching men to cats. Women have come to the conclusion that to secure peace and safety we must oust dating men from our lives altogether.
This doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t all have decent, lovely men in our friend and family circles, though. Because we do! It’s weird how only the worst specimen seem to end up in the dating market… Or is it?
I for one took myself off the dating market completely because I realised that I was wasting time and energy on men who gave me nothing in return. I don’t need a man but I do want one. The problem is, I’m yet to meet one… Men that are worthy of my time seem to be a species at the brink of extinction.
But still, why would so many women choose to live by themselves? Let’s explore some of the key reasons.
1. Women don’t need men anymore
As anyone who ever attended a school knows, women have been in many ways completely dependent on men throughout history. It was only as late as after the 1960’s when it started to become possible for women to land on their own feet.
And when you think about it, the recent history of Western women isn’t actually that far from what the Taliban is doing these days:
- A woman couldn’t go outside without a man
- There were no bank accounts for women
- Women weren’t allowed to work outside of the house
- Of course women couldn’t vote
- Education was solely reserved for men
We’ve come a long way from all of that, haven’t we? Some countries a lot earlier than others. Did you know that women weren’t allowed to open a bank account in the United States until 1974?? It’s no wonder they are still so far behind most European countries when it comes to gender equality…
But even in the States more and more women are waking up to the fact that they can get by completely on their own nowadays. In fact, they can probably get by much better when there’s nobody holding them back, even abusing them mentally, in too many cases also physically.
When a woman is in charge of her own life on her own terms she maintains control over her own schedules, routines, and homes. Once you choose the path to end up alone with cats, you quickly realise that that’s the good life. Instead of partnerships women prioritise personal growth, careers, and hobbies.
2. Companionship without compromise
Now, at the end of the day, even if we want to stay away from men, women still are social creatures. Which is why many of us do have pets. And here’s the thing; pets are often much better and simpler company than men. Even if your chosen pets are fish.
Due to my Digital Nomad lifestyle I unfortunately can’t have pets at the moment. But getting one is definitely on the list for my future! My mum has a cat and my best friend has a dog, and there’s no denying, no human could ever gift us such unconditional, wholesome and unapologetic love ♥
And talking about choosing to end up alone with cats, they do strike the perfect balance between offering affection and maintaining distance. This is ideal for most women because while we do want company, we also appreciate personal space and freedom.
On top of that pets provide emotional support and comfort. How many men do you know who can manage that? Pets offer companionship without the need for constant attention or compromising a busy lifestyle.
All in all, pets offer the benefits of a partnership without the challenges that often arise in human relationships. Oh, and if you’re thinking about the bedroom side of things: women can take better care of themselves by themselves than most men put together ever could…
3. Stress relief or emotional support
Before anyone comes at me, yes I know, there are men who are capable of providing their partners with stress relief and emotional support. But a growing majority of them aren’t! And there’s a simple reason for that: men rely on women for emotional support. They’ve got none to give because they need it themselves.
This is the sad state of things. Women have propped up men for so long that now that we can prioritise ourselves, a lot of men are falling apart. They’ve never had to look after themselves, so they don’t seem to know how.
Male friendships are shallow at best, because it is all men: they are all part of their own problems one way or another. And it was never women’s responsibility to solve those issues for them.
When we can’t get that support from men, we find it elsewhere. Cue the aforementioned pets! It’s a bit ironic that a pet can provide women companionship that alleviates feelings of loneliness, reduces anxiety, and even improves mental health that a man can’t…
Not just pets, though. I don’t have any but I do have a very close circle of friends and family who are always there for me. As I am here for them. And that’s more than enough to get by ♥
4. FREEDOOOM!
As mentioned a couple times already, women choose to end up alone with cats because it allows them a life with much less responsibilities and much more freedom.
Now that women have fully joined men in the working world they’re busy. We juggle careers, personal passions and social activities all at the same time. And we do it beautifully without any effort.
The flexibility of being single is something that very few things in the world can compete with once we get used to and fall in love with it. Don’t women get lonely, though?
Sure, some of them do. But as established ahead, women are far better off with their social circles which helps to alleviate those moments when we feel lost and lonely.
I’m probably the luckiest person in this regard: I was born in Finland, which means I have an innate need for my own space and time.
5. Creating and maintaining a home WE want
When one lives alone, one has full control over what their home looks and feels like, and whether it stays that way.
- No additional cleaning to worry about when it’s just you messing about.
- No unpleasant surprises on counters and in the fridge after a busy day at work.
- And no unnecessary reasons to feel frustrated because things aren’t how you’d like them to be.
Curating the perfect home for oneself is also a way to fight away loneliness. You don’t mind spending some time alone when you can do it in an environment that is 100% you, safe and comfortable. As I said in the beginning, to end up alone with cats doesn’t sound bad at all, does it?
6. The culture around relationships is changing
While there might still be some countries that frown upon women choosing to live by themselves, this has already become a bizarre way to think. Individualism has truly done its job in good as well as in bad, but in terms of women choosing new kinds of life paths for themselves is surely a good thing.
To criticise someone about their choice to live alone says a lot more about the person doing the criticising than the person living their life authentically. Choosing to end up alone with cats is a completely acceptable, and for many the preferred norm in modern society.
The outdated societal expectations never served women so why on Earth would we keep living according to such a culture? No man would ever consent to such! Nowadays women pursue education, careers, travel, and self-exploration instead of relationships that often don’t align with their personal values.
Choosing to End Up Alone With Cats Is About Freedom and Fulfilment
As established, men do not compete with other men when it comes to women’s attention. They compete with the peace and feeling of fulfilment that choosing to end up alone with cats brings us.
Put simply, men need to evolve, grow up and heal from whatever trauma and toxic norms they’ve inhaled along their life. If they don’t, they will have to learn to love a life on their own, just like women have done.
And for y’all ladies, never compromise your right to lead a free, authentic life on your own terms. A man would never lower themself to such a compromise, so why would you? You build the good life, so make sure you build it for yourself first and foremost! ♥
