It happens very rarely that I succumb to impulse shopping. I have no problem signing up for fashion brands’ newsletters because I don’t tend to purchase anything according to them. They’re just pretty e-mails to go through for possible outfit inspiration.
But now it happened: the River Island newsletter arrived shouting “Business class!” and there it was, the most perfect pin-stripe dress with buttons running down the front with a bardot neckline… I had to have it!
And I knew exactly where I wanted to wear it!
I was going home for a lovely Friday night out with mum; fine-dining and going to the theater. And after seeing this dress I couldn’t think of ANYTHING ELSE to wear for that occasion. So, I ordered it… And here’s a story of why I avoid ordering anything online:
The dress was scheduled to arrive on 15th October. Great! I thought because that’s the week when I leave to Finland. A week from placing the order I received an e-mail saying that my order had been dispatched. The delivery date on the note was already 12th. Awesome!
Friday came, and Friday went. Monday came, and I was so excited to receive the dress, and Monday went. On Tuesday I started to investigate where the fuck my dress was. It was time to pack and I needed it! I contacted the courier and River Island customer service.
Both were very quick to answer, which was great. But neither of them had any sort of tracking number for my delivery and the courier didn’t even have anything under my name. Which is bizarre because I know for fact there are no other people on this continent with my name!
So, I told them rather firmly to FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT! and took myself to a River Island store here in Tallinn, found the dress and booked it for myself just in case. Then I asked to talk with the shop manager to figure out a way for me to walk out of the store with the dress without paying twice for it.
Unfortunately they couldn’t offer me that but instead they were able to give me 10% discount for the dress. I had planned my entire weekend around this dress so I had to have it!
So, I paid again. But I have to give a shout-out to River Island because making a reclamation and claiming my money back for the dress that never turned up was the easiest thing ever via their online chat.
OK, the money hasn’t arrived back to my account yet but, assuming it will, I got off cheaper than supposed because of the 10% discount. Plus, I think this was fate intervening, because the dress I ordered from the online store was in fact the wrong size. So I couldn’t have worn it to the theater anyway ;)
All’s well that ends well! I got my dress and isn’t it gorgeous!? ♥
